I have attended a few new company launches/start ups/crowdfunding evenings over the past few years and I have to say that the Worker Bee MCR’s vision is one I feel happy to support.
Roger McBride, founder of RCoffee, is attempting to raise £23k to launch new tea and coffee brand Worker Bee MCR through crowdfunding website Indigogo. The aim is to stock Manchester’s carefully selected bars, cafes and restaurants with high quality bespoke types of tea and coffee and give back to two Manchester-based charities in the process. Not only is Worker Bee encouraging venues to use these and other locally produced products, but they also insist on barista training to be sure the beverages end result is of the standard they pride themselves on.
Almost immediately after arriving at the launch, I’m warmly greeted by Service Manager Mel Holmes and given a fab introduction to the brand. The atmosphere felt so positive and as I met more staff throughout the night you can see the real passion driving them.
During the evening Roger McBride takes the stage to give the attendees a glimpse into the company’s ethos and plans for the future. With genuine enthusiasm, he speaks about why he is proud of Manchester, why he is donating 10% of the wholesale to charity and why he chooses specific recyclable packaging. Brief mentions of barista championships and a development into the beer industry show the long-term goals of this company. Even subjects such as Manchester’s current homeless crisis, depletion of bee numbers and providing a more realistic living wage are discussed, something that is well received by the whole audience.
Stunning honey themed cupcakes, tea and coffee infused canapés and goodie bags are provided alongside samples of the products.
This is a brand that not only has an excellent product and great staff but a positive attitude. You can see Worker Bee MCR easily reaching its target!
